On modern vehicles mileage is stored in a number of control units, we always ensure to update the mileage in all control units.
Lots of reasons e.g. on Citroen/Peugeot (PSA) vehicles, if you fit a used BSI or instrument cluster, if it has a higher mileage stored it will sync this with all control units.
Some services such as reverse camera installations, module cloning, AdBlue/DPF, remapping can be done whilst you wait in most cases, however for electrical diagnostic work we advise leaving the vehicle.
We start with an "initial diagnosis", this is the first hour we spend on your vehicle, within this hour we usually identify the cause of the fault/failure and can report back to you with this information for a decision, however if faults are more complex or intermittent, further authorisation may be required, we will however call you prior to proceeding.
